The Online MCQ Bridging Course is divided in to TWO COURSES that run simultaneously: 

i. ADULT HEALTH Unit consisting of 8 one week modules plus a one week Orientation Unit and a one week Wrap –Up Unit, making this a 10 week course.

ii. SPECIALTY Unit consisting of 4 x 2 week modules covering:

  • Population Health & Ethics,
  • Mental Health
  • Child Health and
  • Women’s Health, plus
  • a one week Orientation Unit and a one week Wrap – Up Unit, making this a 10 week course.

Note:  These 2 courses will run simultaneously and you have the option to enroll in both courses at the same time or in one course only.  Each course requires 20 -25 hours of study time therefore if you choose to enroll in both courses simultaneously a full-time study workload is required.

What are the HEAL Online MCQ Bridging Courses?

  • An online course preparing IMGs for the AMC MCQ Exam
  • The Online MCQ Bridging course is divided in to 2 separate courses: i. 10 weeks duration Adult Health (Medicine/Surgery) Unit and ii. 10 weeks duration Specialty Unit.  You can choose to enrol in one or borth courses simultaneoulsy. 
  • Modules arranged to comprehensively match the AMC exam topics
  • Resources and learning activities made available as you progress through the course
  • A focus on important knowledge to be successful in passing the examination and also practicing as a safe doctor in Australia

  • IMGs preparing for the AMC MCQ Exam
  • The course is suitable for those who need flexible study time due to other obligations (e.g. family and/or work commitments)

How are the online courses structured?

The Online MCQ Bridging course is divided in to 2 courses each of 10 weeks duration as below:

Adult Health (Medicine/Surgery) Unit plus an Orientation unit and a wrap-up unit (10 weeks). The online units are:

  • Study skills and exam technique – 1 week
  • Adult Health (Medicine/Surgery) – 8 weeks
  • Wrap-up, evaluation – 1 week

Specialty Unit  (Population Health & Ethics, Mental Health, Child Health, Women's Health) plus an Orientation unit and a wrap-up unit. The online units are:

  • Study skills and exam technique – 1 week
  • Specialty Unit  – 8 weeks
  • Wrap-up, evaluation – 1 week

What study activities will be provided?

A range of study activities will be provided to participants to work through in each module, including:

  • Webinars – weekly live webinars with course tutors (webinar recordings also provided for those who cannot attend the scheduled weekly time)
  • Written topic overviews – key medical condition topics available to review and revise
  • Filmed expert lectures – experts discuss key topics that the AMC can test on
  • Recorded tutorial presentations – HEAL tutors provide key topic overviews and MCQ discussions for revision
  • MCQ Activities – learn effective exam technique through MCQ practice and authoring tasks
  • Further resources – guidance on where to find relevant external resources to guide and focus your personal study
  • Tutor and peer interaction via an online forum
  • Participants will also have access to the online Therapeutic Guidelines (eTG complete) during the course

How long should participants spend on each online course per week?

We recommend spending approximately 20 - 25 hours per week for each of the 10 weeks courses on your preparation in this program. This time can be allocated between webinar contact time, guided study and private study.  If you plan to do 2 courses simultaneously then the study hours noted above will increase. 

What will participants have to do outside the scheduled online courses?

Individual study times will differ depending on what personal clinical experience and medical knowledge you already have. As this course is designed to help prepare for the AMC MCQ examination, participants may need to spend further time revising particular topics if knowledge and practice is not at the level required by the AMC.

Please remember that the standard of the AMC examinations is formally defined as the level of attainment of medical knowledge, clinical skills and attitudes which is required of newly qualified graduates of Australian medical schools, who are about to commence intern training.

What IT skills do I need for the online courses?

Participants need to be familiar with using computers and the internet. Course participants will be required to join a number of online activities, such as live webinars and discussion forums as well as have the ability to upload materials and view video recordings and text online. Participants will receive a course user guide that provides instruction on how to navigate the course activities and materials.

What system requirements are needed for the online courses?

A range of online systems are used to present learning resources and activities. HEAL recommends the following system requirements to ensure effective access, viewing and interaction with course content.
